PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated 11/1/05

This site has been developed by National Honor Roll to

1. Provide information to the general public about the National Honor Roll program;
2. Provide information to college-bound high school students about the most effective strategies for selecting, getting into, and paying for the college of their choice.
3. Provide the means for potential National Honor Roll high school inductees to submit their completed Student Profiles online, to proofread and approve or correct their biographies at the time they submit them, and to obtain instant confirmation of their acceptance as qualified National Honor Roll inductees.
4. Create a secure site for National Honor Roll honorees to purchase their own personal copy of the Commemorative Edition, or other memorabilia, should they wish to do so.

Because National Honor Roll publishes the biographies of its honorees, National Honor Roll must collect personal information about them. We want you to know what information National Honor Roll collects from visitors to this site and how we use such information. This policy may change as we continue to develop the site. If so, we will revise this Privacy Statement. We urge visitors to consult this area of the site often in order to stay informed of any changes we may make. Regardless of what changes we may ever make, we will only use your personal information in accordance with the policy that was in effect at the time you provided your information to us.

If you are over 13 and under 18 years of age and want to fill out your Student Profile online, you should first check with your parents to make sure it’s OK.

National Honor Roll Candidates

You have responded to an invitation from the National Honor Roll to be honored for your academic and extracurricular achievements. Your biography, listing your name, the name of your school, your city and state, your class year, your accomplishments, activities, and, if you are a high school student, your future college and career goals, will be included in the annual National Honor Roll Commemorative Edition. You voluntarily give us this data when you complete and submit your Student Profile form online. You also give us additional personal information, which is not published, such as your home address, e-mail address, phone number, class rank when given, GPA, and parent’s name. The information collected from your completed Student Profile is used to determine whether you qualify for publication in the annual edition of the National Honor Roll, and is compiled into the biography which is published in the book. We also use it should we need to communicate with you about the information you submitted. We may use the information you provide about yourself to fulfill your requests for our products, programs, and services, to respond to your inquiries about them, and to offer you other products, programs, or services we believe may interest you. From time to time, National Honor Roll may combine the information we receive online with outside records to enhance our ability to offer you products or services that may be of interest to you. If you prefer not to receive marketing information from this site, please send an email, along with your first and last name, to privacy@nationalhonorroll.org.

Once accepted, your place in National Honor Roll history is assured. The data you provide will be used only by the National Honor Roll, colleges, universities, and other organizations to communicate with you regarding education-related products and services. It can also be provided to commercial entities wishing to notify high school students about products and services of particular interest to them. While we seek to share personal information with colleges, universities, organizations, and companies that follow appropriate privacy policies, we cannot be responsible for the actions of such third parties. However, if you wish that we not share your personal information, you may “opt out” by emailing us at privacy@nationalhonorroll.org with that request. We will not share your personal information with any third parties (except as may be required by law) if you have “opted out” in the above-described manner.

We will disclose information we maintain when required to do so by law, such as in response to a court order or to a subpoena or in response to a law enforcement agency’s request.

Credit Cards

National Honor Roll will collect your credit card number should you wish to purchase a product from our site. Information collected by National Honor Roll is securely stored on National Honor Roll’s computers (servers). Credit card transactions take place solely on servers that offer a higher level of security.

The transactions are handled by a third-party financial institution, which receives the credit card number and other personal identifying information in order to verify the credit card number and process the transaction. Only authorized National Honor Roll employees have access to this information, in a manner consistent with industry standards. We will not use credit card numbers for any purpose other than to process your transactions, and we will retain credit card information no longer than we are required to do so by law and for accounting purposes.

We use this data to improve the design and content of our site. We also use it to analyze site usage and to develop additional products, services, and programs for our members. We cannot identify individual visitors from this information.
